Throughout September and October I was enrolled in the Advanced Improv class at The Groundlings. This class is the third, after basic and intermediate, in The Groundling’s core track. On The Groundlings website, it says the core track is: “at the heart of The Groundlings school.”
My teacher for advanced was Roy Jenkins. Roy is without-a-doubt one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. Every Wednesday he performs in the “Crazy Uncle Joe Show” on the Groundlings stage.
The Advanced class culminated in a show on Saturday, October 19th on the Gary Austin stage.
For one of the games, I had to improvise as one of the audience member’s teacher. This audience member described their teacher saying, “she was in the press a lot because her husband had two wives. She was a total snob and a flirt. She thought she was a big deal because she had a car. Oh, and she’s Australian.” I had a lot of questions about this woman, but jumped right into the scene. I learned a lot from this particular game. Mostly, that I need serious work on my Australian accent.
Anyway, I had a wonderful time in my advanced class and I’m looking forward to the next class I can take at The Groundlings!
